What We Do

Agbeloba Community Initiative Society supports the Black community in Canada by addressing essential needs through sustainable and supportive programs. A passion for empowerment, equity, and community well-being drives our work.

Our Programs

Our programs are designed to address the essential needs of our community

while fostering self-reliance and cultural preservation.

Farming Initiatives for Affordable and Quality Food

We believe access to nutritious food is a fundamental right. Through our community-driven farming initiatives, we are cultivating fresh, quality produce that is accessible and affordable for our community members. We work with local farmers and provide resources for small-scale urban farming to create a sustainable and self-reliant food network.

Support for New Immigrants

Moving to a new country can be challenging. Our programs for new immigrants aim to ease the transition into life in Alberta. We offer guidance on accessing essential services, provide information about community resources, and create opportunities for connection, helping new immigrants feel welcome and supported in their new home.

Baby Essentials for Growing Families

Starting a family comes with many expenses. We provide new families with baby items to ensure every child has what they need for a strong start. Our initiative supports families with items such as diapers, baby formula, clothing, and other necessities, helping parents focus on nurturing their little ones.

Hub for Immigrant Kids and Youths

We provide a dedicated space to educate children and youth about agriculture and sustainability. Our programs include:

  • Hosting camps to teach practical skills in sustainability, resilience, and farming
  • Organizing field trips to farms for hands-on learning experiences
  • Offering seminars and workshops tailored for young learners
  • Providing opportunities to “Be a Farmer for a Day”

Promoting Collaboration and Multicultural Exchange

We embrace an open-door policy, welcoming other cultures to learn and collaborate with us. By sharing knowledge about food and organic and local farming practices, we seek to create a community where everyone feels confident and safe to enjoy diverse cuisines.

Promoting Local, Organic Food Production

We focus on planting locally grown, organic food to create meaningful job opportunities for community members. By reducing the need to import African foods, we lower carbon footprints and support the local economy.

Our Projects

Agbeloba Roots to Plate Initiative

This initiative brings locally sourced, nutritious food to communities while empowering people through sustainable farming practices. Our vision is to create a self-sustaining food network that serves the community with healthy, affordable produce.

Farm-A-Day

The Farm-A-Day program provides participants with hands-on experience in sustainable farming practices. Each day spent on the farm is an opportunity to learn, grow, and connect with the land.

Agbeloba Starting Strong Program

The Agbeloba Starting Strong Program is designed to assist newcomers in their transition to Canada. We provide essential resources, information, and a supportive community to ensure newcomers feel welcome and integrated.

Essentials for Newborns Program

We offer essential baby items like diapers, clothing, and formula, ensuring that every child has what they need for a healthy start in life. This program is dedicated to supporting new families in their critical first months.
